Video game sales down AGAIN…come on folks, get out your wallets and buy buy buy!
U.S. video game sales were down 5 percent to $357 million in January, the fifth consecutive month of declines, as the industry moves to new video game console technology, analysts said on Monday, citing data from market research firm NPD Group.
Wedbush Morgan Securities analyst Michael Pachter said sales of games for current-generation consoles declined roughly as expected, but sales of next-generation titles failed to rise as much as anticipated.
Analysts said video game hardware unit sales were down 11 percent overall, as Microsoft’s original Xbox, Sony’s PlayStation 2 and Nintendo’s GameCube video game consoles each posted double-digit percentage declines in unit sales.
