Today Ubisoft officially launched the Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell Conviction GigaPan application for Facebook and ‘Search for Sam Fisher’ sweepstakes. Using advanced technology developed by Google, Carnegie Mellon and NASA Ames Intelligent Systems Division’s Robotics Group, participants are invited to scour various locations across the country for Sam Fisher, his allies, enemies and equipment from the game. Enter the ‘Search for Sam Fisher’ sweepstakes for an opportunity to win weekly prizes including Splinter Cell Conviction gear. Diehard fans of Splinter Cell Conviction who register their information on the ‘Sam Fisher GigaPan Sweepstakes’ website will also be entered into the grand prize drawing for the Ultimate Splinter Cell Conviction prize pack. The application is now live at www.facebook.com/splintercell, and the promotion will end on June 10, 2010.
Sam Fisher is on a manhunt. Using advanced photo technology, GigaPan, zoom in on surveillance photos taken across the globe to locate him, and other influential items from the game. Participants begin by receiving a list of items to search for within a massive location. Once the items are uncovered, players must tag the item to check it off their list. A new location and list of items to locate will be unveiled each week.
The GigaPan Imager shares the same technology as the Mars Exploration Rovers, Spirit and Opportunity, which are used to collect dynamic panoramic images of Mars. This innovation captures large (gigapixel) composite photos that can be zoomed in on and still maintain the highest resolution data for the image.
