E3 Q&A
Please introduce yourself.
My name is Carsten Myhill and I’m the Product Manager on the project. I will be on the booth at E3 throughout the event.
On which platforms will MOTIONSPORTS ADRENALINE be available?
MOTIONSPORTS ADRENALINE will be available on Kinect for Xbox 360® and is also PS3 Move Compatible, meaning you can also play with the 6-Axis controller too.
Who is developing the game?
MOTIONSPORTS ADRENALINE is being developed at the Ubisoft Vancouver studio.
What can we expect from MOTIONSPORTS ADRENALINE?
This is the game that allows you feel the exhilaration of the world’s most extreme sports in the most astounding places on the planet. By using your whole body to control the action in MOTIONSPORTS ADRENALINE you’ll feel that you are really taking part in these amazing events with your friends and family.
What kind of sports will I be able to do in this game?
There are 8 sports in total in MOTIONSPORTS ADRENALINE – Mountain Bike, Rock Climbing, Kayak, Kite Surf, Extreme Skiing, Parkour, Extreme Trampolining and the most dangerous of all… Wingsuit.
What are the differences between the sports?
There is a real variety of gameplay experience to be had with this wide selection of sports. From the fast-paced, reaction based gameplay delivered by Wingsuit and Mountain bike, to slower puzzle-solving co-op gameplay of rock-climbing. From the trick-based gameplay of Kite Surfing to the bicep-pumping action of Kayak, MOTIONSPORTS ADRENALINE is the type of multi-sports title that will provide many, many hours of fun.
Can you tell us more about the controls?
We’ve been keen to deliver a control system that not only utilizes the motion-control-friendly platforms that the game is released on, but also feels natural, intuitive and authentic to the sports that you are participating in.
All the sports require the actions that you would expect if you tried them for real – for example you grab and turn handlebars, lean left and right, duck and jump under and over obstacles. However, we’ve added a fun layer on top of that, a layer where you perform big, deliberate gestures that to improve your score. These include striking funny poses and launching items at your opponent. MOTIONSPORTS ADRENALINE is a fun, accessible sports game – definitely not a simulation!
How many people can play?
Multiplayer has been a real focus for the development team. We know that gamers like to play these kinds of games with their family and friends so we make it as easy as possible for them to do this.
Party Mode allows up to 4 players to be engaged and active in a way that is uncomplicated and accessible.
Just choose how many of you there are, how long you want to play for and the game will do the rest.
Some of the challenges that the game will throw at you include races against each other, co-operative variants of the sports and relays which mean you’ll need to quickly swap places with one another while the action continues on screen.Party Mode in MOTIONSPORTS ADRENALINE allows groups of players to experience all the content in the game in a fun and exciting way.
Is there a single player mode too?
Absolutely. While the objective here is also to provide a wide variety of experiences and challenges based on the 8 core sports, we provide a context that is very loosely based on the life of the extreme sports athlete. You’ll need to find and impress a sponsor who will allow you to access more extreme locations and provide you with equipment and clothing that will improve your performance.
Can you tell us about the online experience?
The objective here once more is to make accessibility to the online features as easy and seamless as possible. For example every time you begin any single player event, you’ll see that the track is populated with ‘ghosts’ of your online friends’ previous performances. All the way down the course you’ll be given challenges and checkpoints along with the visual cue ahead of you of the friend who has set them. You’ll learn instantly if you have successfully beaten your friend’s challenge and if you have set him a new one to beat next time he logs on.
We believe that this asynchronous gameplay will be much more engaging to the way our audience than going to the effort of setting up 1 v 1 matchups live.
Who is your audience?
Basically everyone! We’ve worked hard to make the interface, the controls and gameplay as accessible as possible so that even the most casual player can get to the end of a course and have a fulfilling experience on his or her first attempt. However, to get really high scores, find all the shortcuts, collectables and climb the online rankings you’ll need the reactions of a cobra and excellent co-ordination, so there’s something really tangible for the more experienced and competitive gamer to get his teeth stuck into.
In short, given our strong multiplayer features we see this game being played groups of friends of all ages and abilities and also by families – especially the tween son and his father.
When will the game hit the shelves?
MOTIONSPORTS ADRENALINE will be available in October 2011.
