It was the summer of 1972 when Atari released its first arcade game, Pong, which revolutionized entertainment. To celebrate the 40th anniversary of Atari and the upcoming launch of Internet Explorer 10, we are unveiling Atari Arcade. It features a modern take on 8 popular Atari classic games like Pong, Centipede and Missile Command, bringing them to the web in HTML5 and with multi-touch, multi-player capabilities – ad free at http://arcade.atari.com.

These classic Atari games have been reimagined for touch from scratch with new game design, graphics, gameplay features and code with Internet Explorer 10 in HTML5. Over the next few months, we will release new games to the web regularly on the site from Atari’s library of over 100 classic games. Like the arcades that first popularized gaming, players can go head-to-head with friends in competitive, real-time battles for high scores and leaderboard placement in the next evolution of Atari fan favourites like Breakout and Asteroids. A stellar experience is also offered for users on Internet Explorer 9.

Additionally, Atari’s new platform will grant developers access to a suite of tools for creating cross-browser, cross-device HTML5 games and media experiences. This new offering will give developers a platform to publish games with the ability to utilize features like Facebook integration.
