A week after a mysterious crate was discovered deep in the Canadian wilderness, information about its contents are finally being released. Examined in a secure facility near Whistler, British Columbia, television personality Ajay Fry and Donkey Kong himself have revealed what the much-speculated crate contained – and it’s totally bananas! In fact, it’s an ice block full of bananas!
The discovered bananas, Donkey Kong’s favourite fruit, are part of Nintendo of Canada’s national contest to have Canadians guess the number of bananas frozen inside the massive block of ice. Prizes include a grand prize of a four-day adventure trip for four to Whistler Blackcomb and a Wii U Donkey Kong Prize Pack that includes a Wii U Deluxe Set system, Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze game, Wii Remote Plus controller, and Nunchuk controller (retail value: $9,740). Five runners-up will also win a Wii U Donkey Kong Prize Pack that includes a Wii U Deluxe Set, Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze game, Wii Remote Plus controller, and Nunchuk controller (retail value: $410).
The contest opened Friday to Canadians, February 7 and runs until Thursday, February 20. Potential winners will be contacted on Friday, February 21, when Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze is available to purchase at retailers across Canada and the Nintendo eShop.
Donkey Kong fans can check out a video of the shenanigans that took place at the secure facility with Ajay and Donkey Kong and take a closer look with a 360-degree view of the ice block on Nintendo of Canada’s Facebook page. Fans can also download wallpapers for computer desktops and smartphones from the Banana Mania Contest page.
Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze is the next installment in the smash-hit Donkey Kong Country series. The new game lets players embark on an original adventure with Donkey Kong and partners Diddy Kong, Dixie Kong and, for the first time as a playable character, Cranky Kong, as they battle the Snowmads who have invaded and frozen their home, Donkey Kong Island. Players will jump from island to island as they explore a huge variety of new environments, from lush mangroves to burning savannahs and Donkey Kong’s frozen island. The game introduces a number of new features such as online leaderboards, a dynamic camera that adds dimension and depth to the gorgeous on-screen action, upgraded swimming, and the ability to play the full game on the Wii U GamePad controller in off-TV play. Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze will be available in stores and in the Nintendo eShop on February 21.
