Orc Attack Flatulent Rebellion 11Orcs have become victims of brutal Human expansion, as they are carelessly poisoning the environment that was once their homeland. The game follows four trained Orc heroes that are retaliating with a Not-So-Silent yet very deadly plan to take back their homeland by any means possible. The Orcs fart, burp, and slice their way through the humans to gain ground. Orc Attack: Flatulent Rebellion is an Action/Adventure Hack and Slash (or Gas in this case) Indie game made for the PC on Steam. The game was developed by Casual Brothers and published by Reverb. Orc Attack: FR came out on both the Xbox 360 and PS3 in the Fall of last year.

The game allows both single-player and multi-player co-op, either online or local. Right from the start the soundtrack blasts in your speakers giving you a indication of what is in store; Orcs roaring and steel clashing of swords, the music gets you pumped up to fight hard and fart harder. During cut scenes a narrator explains the story of the orcs to the player in a strong narrative voice that made it seem very similar to a movie. There is a lot of focus put into minor details of sound, such as breathing heavily after running and death cries of your enemies. Unfortunately, all the characters have mumbled indistinguishable voices.

Orc Attack: Flatulent Rebellion has a cartoonish theme of graphics but are not very ground breaking. They were decent to look at but it allowed the game to utilize and portray the slapstick comedy it needed without a problem of being realistic. The animations are choppy and rough to the point where it actually makes the game almost unplayable. The frame rate in the game is not the best either which definitely adds some frustration. When you get a lot of action on the screen you’ll find that everything really slows down quite a bit and you’ll actually find yourself doubling up on buttons because your actions were not shown on the screen until a few seconds later. The character models look decent as well as the enemies but the bad frame rate and clunky camera really takes away from the game. Although, most hack and slash games can sometimes be repetitive Orc Attack: Flatulent Rebellion does try to get out of the redundant pattern of mundane killing. They added a few little simple but unique features that make the game a refreshing experience. If you manage to stumble across a statue of your chosen god you will be rewarded with some Orc runes that work as the in-game currency. These runes allow you to build up your character with various physical stats such as increased strength and damage dealt in different combos. You can also choose a mental boost which will give you longer or smellier farts/burps that will either heal you or help kill the enemy. The game features various bosses such as giant monster orcs. The best way to defeat them is to work out the attack pattern of a boss and act accordingly while focusing to keep your guard up.

It seems very evident that this is a port of the Xbox 360 version because of all the button indications even if you’re just using a keyboard (Where’s the right joystick on my keyboard?). Luckily, I had a controller I could plug in to review this game. You have your basic light and heavy attacks, using those to generate combos and kill your enemies along with burps and farts. The game was easy to control except once in a while the controls would become slightly unresponsive at times. You will definitely find a little fun in the game to start, but it’ll wear off quickly when the issues arise. Playing in Co-Op is definitely more fun than a solo affair. Leveling up your Orcs and buying near gear is the only thing to give longevity to this game. It’s not a terrible game but it does have a lot of issues that may be a hindrance to your enjoyment. Wait for it to go on a Steam sale maybe.

Gameplay

Fun in co-op, alright in solo play. Sometimes can be frustrating because of input issues and game slowdowns.

Graphics

The games art-style is cartoony and matches the games theme but framerate issues causes the game to suffer.

Sound

The soundtrack pumps you up and makes you want to fight those humans! Sound effects are average or better, one of the quality parts of this game.

Overall

The game is not terrible but it does have a lot of problems that should be fixed. Maybe pick it up from a Steam sale if you’re bored.
