Dynasty Warriors 8 Empires Review – Xbox One (Also on PlayStation 4)

Posted By Eric Kelly On March 20, 2015 at 3:51 pm Comments Off on Dynasty Warriors 8 Empires Review – Xbox One (Also on PlayStation 4)

Dynasty Warriors 8 Empires LogoThe Dynasty Warriors Empires series has always tried to marry the action from the main series while incorporating the strategy elements from games like Koei’s Romance of the Three Kingdoms series. While some of them have been hit and miss, this one can be counted among those which are a miss. And perhaps this series needs to re-examine what its strengths are before making another, as this marriage of strategy and action doesn’t seem to work all that well in Dynasty Warriors 8 Empires.

Atelier Shallie: Alchemists of the Dusk Sea Review – PlayStation 3

Posted By Eric Kelly On March 20, 2015 at 2:45 pm Comments Off on Atelier Shallie: Alchemists of the Dusk Sea Review – PlayStation 3

Atelier-Shallie-logoThe Dusk series of Atelier games has been pretty interesting. It’s tried to make a slightly darker story line where the world’s outlook is a bit bleak, while still being cute and adorably light-hearted. And it’s succeeded in that endeavor, and even addressed some long-running issues regarding gameplay mechanics and balance. Each entry saw improvements that made the series more approachable to newcomers. But this entry demonstrates that some benefits can be offset by hiccups or exchanges that were made in the process. The result is still good, but these changes keep the game from truly elevating above its predecessors.

Helldivers Review – PlayStation 4

Posted By Eric Kelly On March 18, 2015 at 4:44 pm Comments Off on Helldivers Review – PlayStation 4

Helldivers LogoTwin-stick shooters are always a fun time, but what if one was made with the following concept: Be the bad guys, and spread ‘democracy’ to the indigenous lifeforms of various planets, all for the glory of the Earth and imperialism. Sound Good? That’s Helldivers in a nutshell, but there are some nice twists to the concept that push it forward more. But there are a few things holding it back from perfection.

Posted By Eric Kelly On March 18, 2015 at 10:36 am Comments Off on Codename: S.T.E.A.M. Review – Nintendo 3DS

Code Name Steam LogoA lot of people complain that Nintendo doesn’t make enough new IPs. While Intelligent Systems is a second party developer, and equally doesn’t innovate as much, they’ve finally made a new IP. And Nintendo should at least get some credit for fostering their efforts. While Codename: S.T.E.A.M. is a fun approach to the strategy RPG genre, it is somewhat flawed in a couple places. But for a first effort, it’s pretty solid.

Dragon_Ball_Xenoverse_logoDragon Ball Z: Battle of Z released last year, and despite an initial string of setback preventing online play from being enjoyable, the game was actually pretty solid. Posted By Eric Kelly On March 6, 2015 at 2:59 pm Comments Off on The Order: 1886 Review – PlayStation 4

The Order 1886 LogoThere comes a time in your gaming life when you should probably ask yourself “Is this kind of stuff fun anymore?” or “Does it even do it well?”. This game is one such an experience that you should ask yourself these questions, as it’s the kind of game that doesn’t seem worth the time and monetary investment needed for it. It’s also proof of just how tolerant gamers are to derivative titles have become as long as they get their instant gratification of ‘shooty shooty bang bang’ and pretty graphics.
