Posted By Eric Kelly On September 16, 2014 at 10:44 am Comments Off on Hatoful Boyfriend Review – Windows PC (Steam)
Dating Sim visual novels are usually simple affairs, so in order to spice things up to leverage people’s interest, the developers of Hatoful Boyfriend HD decided to dip into the weird: The result of which is not only clearly evident, but still entertaining.
Hatoful Boyfriend HD is an HD remaster of the 2012 original Japanese game. While the original game did receive a translation, the new version received some GUI overhauls as some script cleaning. In addition, many of the game’s backgrounds and character portraits are of higher quality than the 2012 game. The plot deals with the protagonist, who is a human girl, while having a name, can be renamed to the player’s liking. Hiyoko Tosaka is the default name, and she attends a school for gifted…birds. Why she is going to a school exclusively for birds, let alone why birds can talk or go to schools is something the game eventually reveals these facts to you. In the meantime, the goal is to get through the school year while romancing one of the birds. This is done like most visual novels through dialog tree selections. The story is pretty threadbare in the beginning, with only bits and pieces being added in, with only a bit of character development. But after attaining all 14 character endings, you can start a new game and ‘fulfill the promise’ to start the true story of Hatoful Boyfriend. The theme also changes from a dating sim to a murder mystery thriller. Read More

After its launch in 1986, DRAGON QUEST saw international success for being one of the first console role-playing games (RPG). Three years later, the title launched in North America for the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) under the name DRAGON WARRIOR. Since then, DRAGON WARRIOR I & II was released for the Game Boy Color in 2000. Now, for the first time in 14 years, SQUARE ENIX has released DRAGON QUEST – a classic retro title that pioneered the development of the RPG genre – on iPhone, iPad, iPod touch and Android devices.
An introductory title to the acclaimed series, DRAGON QUEST players begin their voyage as the “Hero,” a descendent of the valiant hero Erdrick. Featuring an epic journey through the historic realm of Alefgard, players must tackle fearsome foes and adventure through perplex dungeons on their way to the trepid Dragonlord’s lair. After defeating an abundance of enemies, players can explore greater distances and complete additional quests.
“DRAGON QUEST is an extremely pivotal title within the industry; not only was it one of the first highly successful turn-based RPG’s, but it also spawned the successful franchise and set the standard for all other role-playing video games,” said Noriyoshi Fujimoto, the producer of the mobile DRAGON QUEST series. “We are thrilled to bring the legend of DRAGON QUEST to mobile devices and cannot wait for new and old fans to rediscover the RPG that won the hearts of two generations.” Read More

I’ve always been a fan of pool growing up, even though I’ve never had a table of my own, I’d take advantage of every opportunity I had to play whenever I came across one. This extended to my PC of course, as I was an avid player of the classic, Virtual Pool. So I was looking forward to trying out Pure Pool to sort of rekindle those memories. While it’s a good start at first glance and certainly an improvement over past offerings, there’s definitely a lot lacking in this package and some glaring omissions and issues. Read More
