Fearless Fantasy Review – Windows PC (Steam)

Posted By Eric Kelly On August 5, 2014 at 11:30 am Comments Off on Fearless Fantasy Review – Windows PC (Steam)

FearlessFantasy_ScreenShot3Every once in a while a game on steam will release, and it will claim that it is unique. I’d say this one is just unusual. Fearless Fantasy is a light parody of the JRPG genre that feels like a mobile phone port, yet is not. There is an interesting concept that lies within however.

The game is set up with the main character Leon, the most badass bounty hunter around getting a message from a girl promising payment for her own kidnapping. Of course we find out it’s because she doesn’t want to be forced to marry some awful guy. The game then becomes an adventure to ensure that she never has to worry about that mess again. Cut-scenes are sprinkled through each of the game’s levels, some of which are animated. Although the animations themselves are decent, the low budget nature of the game has it being somewhat crude, and leaves a feeling of being unfinished. This is because the scenes lack any sort of color, and they resemble a storyboard.

Shadowgate LogoWith the re-imagining of Shadowgate coming to PC and Mac on August 21, the story behind the evil that plagues the living castle is introduced in this new cinematic trailer. Told through gorgeous hand-painted sequences from the game, the trailer unveils the malevolent Talimar the Black, his fall from grace, and the power he seeks buried deep within the bowels of Castle Shadowgate.

In Shadowgate, intrepid gamers step inside the dark halls of Castle Shadowgate as “The Seed of Prophecy,” the only one who could hope to defeat the traitorous Warlock Lord that dwells within. Designed with compelling cut-scenes that greatly expand the original Shadowgate universe, gamers navigate from room to room via the classic first-person perspective, using their wits to survive the dangerous traps, devious puzzles, and ruthless enemies. If successful, they can assemble the Staff of Ages, a powerful relic capable of keeping this ancient enemy from destroying the living castle and the world of Tyragon itself.

destiny logo smallDestiny is a game that carries a lot of hope from gamers, developers, and publisher alike. It’s Bungie’s first major title out from under the shadow of Microsoft and the Halo juggernaut they constructed with them, and Activision has bet large on it being a hit (though maybe not quite the half a billion rumored a while ago). It’s little surprise that the beta has arrived and gone over the past week with such fanfare, but the question remains whether the enthusiasm will carry over to the release a little over a month from now.
