Army of Two The Devil’s Cartel Review – Xbox 360

Posted By Jeff Markiewicz On May 9, 2013 at 1:14 pm Comments Off on Army of Two The Devil’s Cartel Review – Xbox 360

Army of Two The Devil’s CartelArmy of Two is one of those franchises that when you heard announced was almost an eye-roller. It felt like the game was built upon a single idea pushed out of a corporate meeting but no one could claim the first title, released in 2008, was a bad game. It got decent reviews and EA Montreal did a good job on capitalizing on the promise of the franchise. Two years later, EA Montreal made the follow-up to the first title called Army of Two: The 40th Day and improved almost every aspect of the game. While it wasn’t gaming perfection, it was a highly entertaining and very solid gaming experience. Now over three years later, Visceral Montreal has delivered Army of Two: The Devil’s Cartel. The first two titles in this series have struggled to break out of B-tier status, can The Devil’s Cartel elevate to the next letter grade?

Defiance Review – Windows PC

Posted By Michael Leparc On May 8, 2013 at 11:03 am 1 COMMENT

DefianceMMOs are a dime a dozen these days it seems. While many a WoW clone has risen and been cast aside, the challengers have moved on to a different means of attack, such as licensing big franchises like Star Wars or going free to play. Fewer still have actually decided to actually change things up from the gameplay end. For those who remember the ill-fated Tabula Rasa, a sci fi third person shooter isn’t completely virgin territory for the genre. But Defiance’s increased focus on the action elements and borrowing from a formula that’s worked on a less massively online level at least gives it a chance to catch on with a console audience that hasn’t necessarily been catered to yet. Oh yeah, and it also has the gimmick of being associated with a SyFy television series, with the promise of “transmedia” crossovers between the two, so there’s a still a gimmick. It’s still a bit early for a final verdict, but the various things Trion Worlds tries to pull off at once make for a game with noteworthy potential but mostly unremarkable execution. Time will tell whether it is looked upon as fondly as their first MMO, Rift.

The Sims 3 University Life Review – Windows PC

Posted By Celeste Dobropolski On May 7, 2013 at 4:10 pm 1 COMMENT

The Sims 3 University Life ScreenshotThe fun in Sims 3 has graduated with the new expansion pack Sims 3 University Life. Tired of working your way up from the bottom in your Sim’s career? Send them off to college, where they can earn degrees, career advancements, and more dough than other Sims.

Sims 3 University Life offers many additions to gameplay, most notably the inclusion of a Smart Phone, available to Sims even if they do not attend college. Smart phones introduce texting, blogs, and other new social interactions. Sims attend college in much the same way as they travel, as seen in World Adventures. Once Sims arrive at University, they have the option of living in a dorm with other NPC Sims, or they can rent houses near campus. Any Sims who are roommates but not part of the Sim household can be asked specific roommate commands or even dismissed. Sims can also decide to live in a fraternity or sorority house. Fraternity and sorority houses are host to many juice keggers and bonfire parties. Players of Sims 2 will recognize some familiar aspects of Sims 2 University, such as the ability to receive scholarships and live in dorms. Sims will also run into mascots and study sessions, but there are no Greek pledge tasks in Sims 3. College is also available to all age groups young adult and older. The benefits of attending college vary depending on which of the six majors are chosen. The six majors are Business, Technology, Science & Medicine, Communications, Fine Arts, and Physical Education.
